Rebirth Of An Old Laptop
July 14, 2007
I dusted off an old laptop thats been sitting on my shelf. A fresh install of XP and it’s back in working order. This machine is going to be used almost strictly for the web. I won’t be installing my typical apps on it, only web necessities. With that said, I’ll run down the list of what I have installed on this machine:
- Browsers and Mail
- IE by default, of course
- Firefox 2.0
- Flock 0.9
- Mozilla Thunderbird, connecting to my Gmail account
- Mozilla Sunbird, a calendar application
- Security and Maintenance
- CrapCleaner - deletes all of the excess junk that builds up
- AusLogics Disk Defrag – Windows Defrag sucks
- Spyware Doctor
- Adaware from LavaSoft
- Additional Software
- Yahoo Instant Messenger
- WebCam software
- Will be adding Trillian and a good text Editor
I was toying with doing a dual boot with Ubuntu Linux, but I think that may go against my goal here. I simply want a fast web browsing laptop. Hopefully, I’ll be able to keep it that way.
